prosperity & decay
military museum in Palau, Sardinia
open ideas competition
To settle within an existing structure is a question of balance. The primary, historic buildings shall not be forced to compete with the new ones; they should be in constant interaction - through space, material, and use.
Similarly to the process of dancing, one pushes while the other one steps back, if the partner threats to fail, the other one is ready to step in. Analogically to that gesture this concept of a military museum area showcases constant conduct of taking existing built space, but also giving something with newly built territories back.
That being said, it does not merely have to mean, that each old structure has to be reused; some of them stay as they are - a witness of history.
